Biology and fertility life table of Bactrocera carambolae on grape and acerola Rev. Bras. entomol.
Pasinato,Joel; Redaelli,Luiza Rodrigues; Botton,Marcos; Jesus-Barros,Cristiane Ramos de.
ABSTRACT Bactrocera carambolae Drew & Hancock (Diptera: Tephritidae), native of Southeast Asia, is present in Brazil but restricted to Amapá, Pará and Roraima, where it has quarantine pest status. The possible dispersion to other fruit producing regions of Brazil could cause damages, including for exportation, due to quarantine restrictions imposed by fruit importing countries. The objective of this work was to describe the biological parameters and calculate the fertility life table of B. carambolae on grape (Vitis vinifera L.) and acerola (Malpighia emarginata DC.). The experiment was conducted in the laboratory under controlled conditions. The mean number of punctures and the mean number of eggs per female on grapes were 1.48 ± 0.05 and 9.87 ± 0.36,...

Ciclo biológico de Simpulopsis ovata (Gastropoda, Bulimulidae) em São Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Gomes,Suzete R.; Silva,Rosane S. da; Gil,Guacira M.; Thomé,José W..
The population growth of Simpulopsis ovata (Sowerby, 1822) from the Centro de Pesquisas e Conservação da Natureza - Pró-Mata, São Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, was studied along eleven months of 1996. Two discontinuous age classes were identified. The first one, with a monthly growth rate of 1.55 mm, was reproductively mature during April and May. The second one appeared after the previous group and had a monthly growth rate of 0.44 mm. The fact that no adults from the two age classes were found together is a characteristic of a semelparous species. New insights about its shell, pallial cavity and reproductive system are given. This is the first record of S. ovata for the State of Rio Grande do Sul.

Rearing method of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) (Coleoptera, Silvanidae) on various wheat grain granulometry Rev. Bras. entomol.
Beckel,Helenara dos Santos; Lorini,Irineu; Lazzari,Sonia M. N..
Oryzaephilus surinamensis is one of most common insect pest of grains and a variety of stored products, and has been found in high numbers in almost all storage facilities. However, laboratory mass rearing of this insect for bioassays is not a simple task, mainly because of its feeding behavior, small size, and high mobility. Thus, the aim of this work was to develop a simple and efficient laboratory rearing method for O. surinamensis, using wheat kernels milled into different granulometry to obtain large number and standardized population at different life stages for bioassays. The adults were collected from storage grain facilities in the southern region of Brazil and 100 specimens were placed inside glass jars with wheat kernels milled at different...
